What is Rybelsus 14 mg?

Rybelsus® (semaglutide) 14 mg is a once-daily oral medication used to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists, which work by mimicking a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar, insulin secretion, and appetite.

This is the highest available oral dose of semaglutide, typically used when lower doses (3 mg or 7 mg) are no longer sufficient to maintain glycemic control.

Approved Uses

• Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
  Rybelsus 14 mg helps lower fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels in adults who are unable to achieve control through diet and exercise alone.

• Cardiovascular Risk Reduction (indirect)
  Though not directly approved for this, GLP-1 receptor agonists have shown cardiovascular benefit in people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

• Weight Management (off-label)
  While not officially approved for obesity, many patients experience significant weight loss while on Rybelsus 14 mg due to reduced appetite and delayed gastric emptying.

How It Works

Semaglutide activates GLP-1 receptors in the body, leading to:

• Increased insulin release (when glucose is high)

• Decreased glucagon secretion (reduces liver sugar output)

• Slowed gastric emptying (makes you feel full longer)

• Appetite suppression (leads to reduced calorie intake and weight loss)

Dosage and Administration

• Starting Dose: Typically 3 mg once daily for 30 days

• Titration: Increase to 7 mg, then to 14 mg if needed

• Administration:

  • Take once daily, on an empty stomach

  • Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medications

  • Swallow tablet whole with a small amount of water (no more than 120 mL)

Drug–Drug Interactions

• May delay absorption of oral medications taken around the same time

• Caution with insulin or sulfonylureas — may increase the risk of hypoglycemia

• Take other oral medications at least 30 minutes after Rybelsus for best results

Food Interactions
